Prince Fielder needs to visit Buddy Rydell: Cecil Fielder’s kid has serious anger management issues. First Prince shoved starting pitcher Manny Parra last season and yesterday he tried going into the Los Angeles Dodgers locker room to confront pitcher Guillermo Mota. Prince, say it with me, “Goosfraba. Goosfraba.” [ESPN]
Watch out for Georgia Tech’s running game: First-year head coach Paul Johnson brought a dynamic rushing attack to Atlanta last season. Tech could have a better run game this season now that their offensive line is deeper and comfortable in what they are doing. [AJC] Don't be surprised if they win the ACC this year.
Don Zimmer’s favorite pitcher is killing it in the minors: Philadelphia Phillies starter Pedro Martinez had 11 strikeouts for the Double-A Reading Phillies tonight. This might be his last rehab start before he joins the Philadelphia Phillies. [ESPN]
J-E-T-S are in trouble if this happens: Quarterback Kellen Clemens believes he is still the guy to lead the New York Jets to a world championship. As a Buffalo Bills apologist, I hope Clemens ends up with the starting job over Mark Sanchez. [NY Times]
Jay Cutler will be making bank if Bears make playoffs: One writer thinks that since former Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler is more talented than New York Giants quarterback Eli manning, that the Chicago Bears should try to work out a new contract now with Cutler with the team being almost $25 million below the salary cap. [Chicago Tribune]
Chubs from Happy Gilmore has better hands than Heyward-Bey: Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis loves speed and will almost always draft a guy higher than expected if he has some wheels. Davis did that again this season by drafting Maryland’s Darrius Heyward-Bey and the rookie dropped plenty of passes in practice on Monday and Tuesday. [LA Times] I don’t know about you, but JaMarcus Russell and Heyward-Bey make quite the Super Bowl combination ( I keed, I keed!)
Maryland is not going to the Big East: Maryland athletic director Debbie Yow called the New York Post’s article silly that stated that the Big East might be interested in Maryland and Boston College. [Baltimore Sun] It is scary to think that Maryland would be close to the bottom of the standings of Big East basketball.
Sorry Conan, Leno’s show sounds good: We here at HKS are big Conan supporters, but Jay Leno’s new show sounds entertaining. Leno has dropped ten pounds (chin still weighs 45lbs) and Brian Williams, D.L. Hughley and Rachael Harris (The Hangover) will all be correspondents. I like Kevin Eubanks as much as I like Gilbert Gottfried books on tape, but the rest of the show sounds great. We will watch it when it starts and hope Eubanks slowly gets phased out. [EW]
