College Football Predictions, Projections, and Prognostications: Part 1

texas longorns

Conference Predictions:

 SEC:

East: Florida

West: LSU

Sleeper: Georgia

Conference Champ: Florida. No brainer here. They return too much for anyone else to really even compete. The Gators could lose half of their starting defense and Tim Tebow and still win the conference title. That’s how deep they are.

ACC:

Coastal: Virginia Tech

Atlantic:  NC State

Sleeper: Clemson

Conference Champ: Va. Tech. NC State is a year away. We hear that Paul Johnson’s not happy with his team’s effort. UNC is probably one more Butch Davis class away. It’s Beamer ball by default.

Big Ten:

Champ: Ohio State. Jim Tressel is too good of a coach to pick against. Terrell Pryor will step up, but Dan Herron and a physical OL will be the real difference makers.

Sleeper: Iowa

Big 12:

South: Oklahoma

North: Kansas

Sleeper: Oklahoma State

Conference Champ: Oklahoma. Hard to see Texas topping OU two years in a row. The trip to Stillwater could also derail the Longhorns.

Big East:

Champs: South Florida. This is the year that Matt Grothe gets it done. We like the schedule. West Virginia comes to Tampa and the Bulls get a week off before Rutgers and Cincy with 9 days off before a trip to Pitt.

Sleeper: West Virgina. Probably shouldn’t call them a sleeper, but WVU still has talent and a nice coaching staff.

Pac 10:

Champs: USC. Aaron Corp will eventually retake the starting QB job and the Trojans just flat have too much talent not to win. If Carroll sticks with Barkley too long don’t be surprised to see Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

Sleeper: Oregon State. Both Rodgers return. They would have won conference last season if not for injuries.

BCS:

Sugar: Penn State vs. Alabama

Orange: USF vs. Virginia Tech

Rose: Ohio State vs. USC

Fiesta: TCU vs. Texas

BCS Title: Oklahoma vs. Florida: We don’t want to see it either. Never hoped that we are wrong more than we do now.
