The Football Weekend of the Year: Part 1

jake_locker

No one is talking about it. This weekend’s combined college and pro games are the best of any week of the season. Here’s why:

  • Drama: Tons of questions will be answered this week. Can BYU continue their run at a BCS bowl by knocking off another traditional BCS power (Florida State)? The Fresno State game Friday may be the last opportunity to lose for Boise State. West Virginia and Auburn will battle with a return to the national spotlight on the line for each team. Charlie Weiss may be coaching for his job against Michigan State. Texas looks to avenge the loss that knocked them out of the BCS title game against Texas Tech. if this isn’t enough for you there’s also:
  • Storylines: Lane Kiffin has to face the music at Florida. USC travels to Washington to meet their former OC Steve Sarkisian. Dan Hawkins’ Colorado team faces Wyoming at home with Hawkins’ job on the line. Georgia travels to Arkansas in a game that could put Mark Richt on the hot seat with a loss. Nebraska looks to reestablish themselves at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg.
  • Competition: Cincinnati travels to Corvalis to face Oregon State. Utah travels to Eugene looking to put another mid-major loss on Chip Kelly’s resume at Oregon. Other “flip a coin” games: Michigan State at Notre Dame, West Virginia at Auburn, Nebraska at Va Tech…even Kansas State/ UCLA and Baylor/ UConn could be too close to call.
  • Schedule: Here’s how it all plays out.

Early games:

Kentucky/ Louisville, Boston College/ Clemson, Cal/ Minnestoa

Afternoon:

Tennessee/ Florida, Michigan State/ Notre Dame, Utah/ Oregon, Nebraska/ Virginia Tech, USC/ Washington, Arizona/ Iowa, UConn/ Baylor

Evening:

Cincy/ Oregon State, Florida State/ BYU, Georgia/ Arkansas, West Virginia/ Auburn, Texas/ Texas Tech

Oh yeah, we haven’t even gotten to the sick slate of NFL games. More on that later.
