Just like we told you last month, Cincinnati's Brian Kelly will be the next head coach at Notre Dame. Sources told IrishCentral that Kelly is the preferred coach and that he is expected to sign a deal with the Fighting Irish. Kelly has a 33-6 record with the Bearcats and would be a great hire for the Fighting Irish. Some thought the Fighting Irish would hire a coach with a defensive background, but Kelly also has experience as a defensive coordinator on a smaller level. It will be interesting to see if quarterback Jimmy Clausen considers coming back to play one year under Kelly. Cincinnati quarterback Tony Pike threw for 2,234 yards and 25 touchdowns in only eight games this season. Kelly will not have the immediate recruiting success that Charlie Weis had in his early years at South Bend, but he will be the coach to turn Notre Dame into a National Championship contender sometime in the next couple of years.
