Notre Dame fired Charlie Weis on Monday and it seems that every Catholic and football coach is rumored to replace Weis. Everybody from Brian Kelly to Tony Dungy has been linked to this job and athletic director Jack Swarbrick has to hit a home run with his next hire. Notre Dame fans need to be patient as they are facing a situation that is similar to what Michigan fans are facing. Because of some of the recruiting misses of the last staff and some of the NFL defections, next year’s team could lack depth and talent on offense and defense. Quarterback Jimmy Clausen and wide receiver Golden Tate will both probably leave school for the NFL Draft. Clausen could be a top-15 pick and Tate should leave as the 2011 NFL Draft could be loaded with A.J. Green, Julio Jones and Michael Floyd. If Brian Kelly gets the job at Notre Dame, Kelly could turn Clausen into a top-five pick. We still think Kelly will be the guy in South Bend and Notre Dame fans need to realize that Regis Philbin has a better chance of being the next coach than Dungy.
