SEC Weekend Overreactions

NEW MEXICO STATE AUBURN

  • Auburn looks scary. Over 500 yards in each of their first two games… Kodi Burns looks like a Gus Malzahn QB and two RB’s have topped 100 yards in each of the first two games. ESPN Chris Lowe dropped this nugget earlier: Auburn scored 6 offensive touchdowns against Mississippi State. They only scored 7 offensive touchdown’s in 8 SEC games last year. The Plainsmen aren’t ready for primetime, but they aren’t that far away from it.
  • South Carolina’s loss to Georgia was their best performance of the Spurrier era. They finally got QB play. A performance like Stephen Garcia’s was the missing ingredient for the Gamecocks. Sure they lost, but the rest will come together if Garcia can continue to develop. South Carolina is light years behind the Dawgs in terms of talent. If they can continue to play like they did Saturday they’ll win 8 or 9 games.
  •  Jonathan Crompton is the worst QB that we’ve seen in this league. He has all of the physical skills, but he refuses to adapt and throws do a read that he predetermines before the snap on 70 percent of plays. No other QB in the league loses that game against UCLA with the way that the Vols were manhandling the Bruins at the line of scrimmage. The staff can attempt to excuse the performance and we are sure that Crompton is a heck of a guy, but he hasn’t progressed as a player in 5 years and is the most mentally deficient starter in college football.
  • Trent Richardson is the best freshman RB in the SEC. Although we really don’t know what Bryce Brown can do, and Jarvis Giles looks like he’ll be a stud in this league at times too.
  • Georgia has me scratching my head. Their OL can’t get a push against an Oklahoma State team that got ran by Houston, then they convert over half of their third downs in the win against South Carolina. Their defense holds the Cowboys to under 30 points, then allows the Cocks to drop nearly 40 on them.
  • Florida might win every game by double digits. They’re that good.
