Dummy’s Guide to Missing the Playoffs

Ralph Wilson

Do you remember when we were kids and your parents asked you: "If Johnny jumps off of a bridge, would you do that too?" The reason I bring this up is clearly some NFL general managers never had this discussion with their parents as they seem to be following the other idiots in the league. The NFL season starts in six days and there have been three offensive coordinators fired the week before the season starts. First the Kansas City Chiefs fired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired Jeff Jagodzinski. I thought that might be the end of that, but then the team that has given me so many headaches decides to fire their offensive coordinator. The Buffalo Bills fired offensive coordinator Turk Sconert today after the Bills had a very anemic offense in the preseason.

Schonert has been in the NFL for many years, but the Bills offense also struggled last season. The problem here is that the Bills added Terrell Owens, Shawn Nelson and Dominic Rhodes in the offseason. Lee Evans has never played with a receiver that has the talent that T.O. posesses. The problem here is that T.O. missed every game but one and running back Fred Jackson also missed someĀ  time in the preseason. The Bills were without two of your best playmakers in the preseason and yet Ralph Wilson thought it was time to make a chance. Next time the 104-year old Wilson wants a reason why the Bills haven't been to the playoffs since 1999, all he has to do is look in the mirror.
