Mets GM Omar Minaya went bat-you know what-crazy today at a press conference announcing the firing of team VP of Player Development Tony Bernazard. Minaya accused a NY Daily News columnist of reporting that Bernazard tried to fight a D-backs scout, reliever Francisco Rodiguez, and the team’s AA affiliate so that he could make a play for Bernazard’s job.
Then again, maybe Minaya’s nonsensical ramblings are correct. Maybe there has always been a deeper media conspiracy. Was I subconsciously attempting to take Phillip Fulmer’s job when I gave the scores to Tennessee football games during sports reports? Is Scott Van Pelt attempting to undermine Lance Armstrong when reporting that Armstrong finished 3rd in the tour this weekend? Maybe Bob Kesling’s attempting to ouster Bruce Pearl when giving the final score of UT losses. Minaya you sly devil you. Most GM’s would merely be concerned with replacing the nine members of his club currently on the disabled list and keeping their train wreck of a team from falling more than twenty games back of the division lead. But not you Omar, you’re taking on the deeper issues.
