Why Drew Brees is the Best Player in Football

Peyton has the MVP’s. Brady’s got the rings, but no single player does more for his team than Brees. Sound crazy?

Many pointed to an 8-8 season last year as to why Brees didn’t win the MVP. Look over the Saints roster. Now remove Reggie Bush for 6 games, Jeremy Shockey for 4 games, and Marques Colston for 5 games (although he wasn’t right all year). Look at who’s left. Brees was 16 yards away from breaking Dan Marino’s single season record for passing yards with Lance Moore and Billy Miller as his top targets for large portions of the season.

There’s no other QB that could have gotten his team to a .500 record with the group that Brees had around him. Add to that the fact that Olindo Mare missed late FG’s that cost the Saints games against the Skins, Vikes, and Broncos. New Orleans was a few very makeable field goals away from being an 11-5 team, even with that porous defense.

This season the defense should be better, all of Brees weapons are back, and the Sean Peyton seems ready to admit that Reggie Bush will never be a between the tackles runner. We concur with Jamey’s assessment of the Saints as this year’s Cards, and it all starts and ends with Brees.
