1) NY Giants: Consistency and continuity have been the trademarks of this group. No Giants first-teamer has missed a start in the last two years. They’re a bruising unit that clears holes for their backs that you can drive a truck through. The edition of rookie William Beatty adds depth which should help the line stay fresh in the fourth quarter.
2) Philadelphia Eagles: Kind of a roll of the dice here as this unit’s yet to work together. They have size and experience to spare, though. Jason Peters should be an upgrade from Tra Thomas and the addition of Stacey Andrews should pay dividends as well. We love the Eagles “all in” attitude. The OL is the place that will benefit the most from it.
3) Arizona Cardinals: This was the most improved of any unit in the NFL last season. The Cardinals faced a league high 218 blitzes in 2008 and Kurt Warner was sacked only 6 times. There’s only one starter here that’s older than 28, so they should continue to improve.
4) Carolina Panthers: There’s not a lot of depth here, but the front line players are as good as any in the game. Ryan Kalil is a coach on the field at center. The addition of Duke Robinson in the draft was an underrated move. Jordan Gross might be the best LT in the game.
5) Dallas Cowboys: Mauling right side, questions on the left. Mark Columbo has improved his technique and will be a threat to crack the Pro Bowl roster this year. Leonard Davis is having a professional renaissance since being moved to G. Flozell Adams is a bit long in the tooth. He should be helped by the return of G Kyle Kosier from a foot injury that ended his season earlier in 2008.
