NFC Unit Rankings: QB’s

Drew Brees

1)   New Orleans Saints:Anyone outside of the bayou know who backs up Drew Brees? Don’t feel bad, most don’t. Brees has quietly become the most reliable signal caller in the conference despite spending much of the last two seasons without his playmakers for large stretches and former first rounder Robert Meachem offering nothing in the way of on field contribution. Mark Brunell and Joey Harrington are journeyman backups that can ably hold down the fort were Reggie Bush’s proclivity to injury to become contagious.

2)   Minnesota Vikings:They were expected by most to win the NFC North before the Favre signing. Now they have three options at QB that they feel confident can win a ball game for them. No other team can say that.

3)   Philadelphia Eagles:Adding Vick to the roster not only added insurance were Donavan McNabb to be lost to injury, it also protects their personnel men from a backlash if Kevin Kolb really is only as good as we saw him play at Baltimore last year. A.J. Feeley is a relatively serviceable backup off the bench as well.

4)   Arizona Cardinals:We get the feeling that the Cards wouldn’t be phased with Matt Leinart under center were Kurt Warner to go down. Either would still have the best receiving corps in the game at his disposal.

5)   Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo may have ball protection issues when his OL doesn’t do their job, but he’s lights out when given time to go through his progressions. Many forget that Jon Kitna is only two years removed from a four thousand yard passing season as well. Romo will miss a game at some point during the season, and Jerry’s Boys will be in much better shape than they would have been were Brad Johnson still the number two. Kitna’s the best backup in football right now.
