Has there been a season in recent memory where the have’s and have not’s were so clearly defined? If not for the annual postseason choke job that Indy does to San Diego we could probably just use the BCS model to get our Super Bowl after week 13. Fortunately, schedules and injuries can change a lot in the next 11 weeks. Here’s what we’re thinking so far, though:
- The Giants are the best team in football. You already know that they have deepest front seven in the history of the game and an OL that bludgeons people for four quarters. What we’re seeing this year is four legit options at WR, the best 1-2 punch at RB in football, and a QB that is maturing into one of the game’s best. This week’s Saints matchup should have a playoff atmosphere. Only Minnesota and Philly have the ability to keep this from being an NFC Championship game preview.
- Denver and Cincy have to be taken seriously. Maybe these two teams are just playing out of their minds, but until further notice, wins at the expense of the Pats and Ravens respectively is enough to warrant spots near the top of everyone’s power rankings.
- Dick Jauron is fired. You can’t lose to a team who’s QB goes 2 of 17 on the day. There’s no excuse. He canned the OC and cut his LT just before the beginning of the season. Where are the team’s issues? Play calling and pass protection. What’s the point of bringing in T.O. if your QB can’t stay up right long enough to get the ball to him?
- Eric Mangina is the worst coach in the game. Anyone else see the James Davis story? His decision making makes Oakland look like TED.
- The Titans have to be blown up. They’re just too old at too many positions and not talented enough at others. Unfortunately if Bud Adams is as bat $#!+ crazy as we think that he is (and he usually is) he’ll probably throw Fisher under the bus and hire a retread to coach the same players next year. Vanden Bosch looks either hurt or finished and Kerry Collins is finished. What would it hurt to give VY the rest of the snaps this year?
