The Detroit Lions drafted former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford with the first pick of the 2009 NFL Draft and hoped Stafford would eventually be the quarterback of the future for the Lions. Stafford might get that chance in week one now that he is starting the last preseason game on Thursday against the Buffalo Bills. Third-string quarterback Drew Stanton has torn knee cartilage and could have surgery on Wednesday. Veteran Daunte Culpepper is competing for the starting job, but cut his foot Saturday night and needed eight stiches. Stafford might start week one, but we predict a very rough year for Stafford and the Lions. [AJC]
